Abstract
Breastfeeding is crucial for a child's survival and health, as it is a safe, natural, nutritious, and sustainable source of nutrition. In Indonesia, the rate of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months has increased from 52% in 2017 to 68% in 2023. However, many challenges remain, especially for newborns. According to the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey (SKI), only 27% of newborns receive breast milk within the first hour of life, one in five babies are given food or fluids other than breast milk in the first three days, and only 14% receive skin-to-skin contact for at least one hour after birth. The purpose of this health education is to increase the knowledge of pregnant women in the third trimester about breastfeeding and lactation preparation so that problems with breastfeeding during the postpartum period can be prevented. The community service method is in the form of counseling, education, or counseling with the title Lactation Preparation for Pregnant Women in the Third Trimester to Prevent Problems in Breastfeeding. This activity will be held on February 12, 2026, at PMB Ria Tisnawati Palembang. During this period, several preparatory stages will be carried out, coordination with relevant parties will be carried out, and education will be provided to pregnant women in their third trimester. Evaluation of the community service results will be conducted through pre- and post-test assessments by completing a provided questionnaire. The pre-test results obtained an average score of 55.25 and an average post-test score of 80.20. From these evaluations, it can be concluded that there has been an increase in the average score of participants, resulting in an increase in knowledge and understanding of breastfeeding and lactation preparation.
