Abstract

Flat foot (pes planus) is a postural abnormality of the foot characterized by a reduced medial longitudinal arch, which may affect lower-extremity biomechanics and postural balance while increasing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders and sports-related injuries. This condition often remains undetected at an early stage among physically active adolescents. This Community Service Program aimed to facilitate early detection of flat foot using Digital Plantar Imaging Analysis, enhance participants’ knowledge, and implement an education-based corrective exercise program. The activity was conducted on July 18, 2026, at SMA Negeri 4 Palembang and targeted male and female students who actively participated in extracurricular basketball activities.

The program comprised foot arch assessment using Digital Plantar Imaging Analysis, interactive lectures and discussions, demonstrations and supervised practice of corrective exercises, and knowledge evaluation through pre- and post-tests. The corrective exercise program included Short Foot Exercise, Toe Curl Exercise, Heel Raise, balance exercises, and stretching.

The findings demonstrated that the participants’ mean pre-test score was 48%, indicating limited knowledge regarding flat foot, its risk factors, potential consequences, and preventive measures. Following the intervention, the mean post-test score increased to 89%, representing a 41-percentage-point improvement in knowledge. Furthermore, all participants were able to perform the basic corrective exercise techniques appropriately after receiving demonstrations and guidance from the implementation team.

This program successfully enhanced participants’ knowledge and skills regarding the early detection and prevention of flat foot. The integration of Digital Plantar Imaging Analysis, health education, and corrective exercises represents an effective approach to supporting promotive and preventive musculoskeletal health efforts among adolescents.
