Main Article Content
Abstract
More than one million cases of reproductive tract infections (RTIs) occur every day worldwide. The condition of the vagina during menstruation, especially related to genital hygiene, is one of the risk factors for RTIs. RTIs are most commonly found in women aged 20 to 24, with two out of four women in this age group experiencing them. In Indonesia, menstrual hygiene practices among teenagers are still not optimal. This is influenced by the lack of knowledge teenagers have about menstruation. UNICEF data shows that one in four children never receive information about menstruation before menarche or their first period. Efforts to prevent RTIs can start by maintaining hygiene during menstruation. The goal of this community service activity is to increase teenagers' knowledge about Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) as a way to promote reproductive health among adolescents. This activity is carried out in the form of counseling with a lecture method using audiovisual educational media and leaflet. This activity was held on July 2, 2026, at the Nutrition Bachelor's Program at Muhammadiyah Ahmad Dahlan University (UMAD) Palembang with 33 first-year female students participating. The evaluation results of the pre-test and post-test showed an increase in the students' knowledge after being given education about MHM. The pre-test had an average score of 65.3, while the post-test average score was 73.4. The outcome of this activity is that the participants, who are adolescent girls and first-year Nutrition students, have received comprehensive information about MHM, which is expected to improve the implementation of MHM itself to enhance adolescent reproductive health.
