Abstract

Children under the age of five are at higher risk of stunting—a growth disorder caused by chronic malnutrition—which most commonly occurs during the first 1,000 days of life. This condition leads to high rates of mortality and disease in adulthood, as well as delayed motor development, reduced productivity, and diminished national competitiveness. Poor health among adolescents due to an unbalanced diet is one of the factors contributing to stunting. Complex health issues among adolescents include being overweight or obese, stunting, iron deficiency (anemia), and chronic energy deficiency (CED). Given their potential role in creating a generation free from stunting, it is crucial to understand how adolescents perceive stunting. The community service activity took the form of a health education session titled "Introduction to Stunting among Adolescent Girls." The event was held on July 22, 2026, at SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Palembang. The results of the health education session showed an increase in the respondents' knowledge regarding stunting. Among the 14 respondents, the mean knowledge score prior to the education session was 40.71 (standard deviation: 15.42), whereas after the session, it rose to 80.71 (standard deviation: 11.41). Thus, there was an increase of 40.00 points in the mean knowledge score. The educational activities had a positive impact on improving respondents' understanding of stunting. This increase in knowledge is expected to foster greater awareness and better behaviors regarding health maintenance and the fulfillment of nutritional needs—starting from adolescence—as part of sustainable efforts to prevent stunting.
